What some are calling an "all out brawl" in the Russell House allegedly involving between five and 12 students, possibly student athletes, occurred between 12:30 and 1 p.m. according to multiple eyewitness accounts.

First-year biology student Tommy Nguyen was eating lunch near where the fight broke out and saw two males come into the Russell House before they attacked another male.

"I was sitting there eating at one of the tables next to the booth," Nguyen said. "All of a sudden I heard something behind me. Two guys jumped one guy and were going for his face."

Police responded to the scene after the fight had already ended and declined to provide any information at this time.

"I thought the guy that was getting hit was the athlete. He had a shirt that had some kind of sport on the shirt but I don't know which one it was," Nguyen said.

"It was violent but I don't know if any blood was shed. They went for chairs and were trying to hit the dude with chairs," he said.

The fight lasted for several minutes and included two distinct groups according to eyewitness Edgar Santana, creative director for USC Student Media. He said that after several minutes the fight quickly ended and both groups left in different directions.

"They kind of dispersed after a few minutes of the fight," Santana said. "I think they saw the managers of the grand market place walk by, they couldn't do anything, there were so many big guys involved. But I think they saw that it was time to go. Sure enough they ran out the front door and the door to the courtyard."

Nguyen overheard the instigators of the fight shouting and yelling as they hit the victim. What Nguyen overheard indicated the fight may have been gang-related.

"At first I thought [I heard] 'Bloods' or something like that. Once they started hitting him they kept saying 'What's up Red?'" Nguyen said.

I've tried to ignore his lack of discipline but I cant deny it any longer. (Continued…)

What makes our guys thugs for defending a teammate? The altercation was caused by ppl from another school that came onto USC property. Hopefully the guys will take the anger from this atlercation and apply it to the game on saturday! GO COCKS!

Did the report say "football players"? I didn't see that.

They were defending themselves. We don't have a bunch of thugs on our team, apparently the other school does. If they're such upstanding young men then why did they walk into our Cafe and start something with our team? Ya'll don't have any right to say that this is the Carolina players fault. (Continued…)
