Costner, band to play for fans in Charleston
Actor returns to Lowcountry to shoot new horror flick

MCCLELLANVILLE - Kevin Costner prefers playing music for his fans rather than signing autographs, the 53-year-old actor says.
Costner, in the South Carolina Lowcountry filming "The New Daughter," plans to play with his band, Modern West at Charleston's Music Farm on March 29.
"I've found that if I can perform music for two hours on stage, talking to people, it beats a two-second autograph," Costner told The (Charleston) Post and Courier. "And anybody who is really watching goes, 'I feel really different about him.' Now, the hope is that they feel something positive."
Costner's latest film - a horror movie - is set for release next year.
"I don't like scary movies personally, but I did want to be in one," he said. "I thought this one read really well, and I like the idea of making a movie like this and trying to see if we can raise the bar on it - at least its IQ - a little bit."
Costner has filmed in the Lowcountry before - 1983's "The Big Chill." Don't remember him in that one?
His scenes were famously cut from the story about ex-hippies reaching middle age and dealing with the suicide of one of their college friends - Costner's character.
But, director Lawrence Kasdan remembered his work and cast Costner in 1985's "Silverado."
After that, his career took off.
Costner said he has tried to take the road less traveled throughout his career in film.
"I've been flying against the conventional wisdom for a long time," he said, "and simply for one reason: What if everybody's wrong?
